Videogame Live Scoring Session at the Olymptronica 2009

Video Game
March 2009

Hans HiScore will perform a live scoring session for a Nintendo Wii game and create an interactive soundtrack at this year's Olymptronica fair (March 7th-8th 2009). This creative approach is inspired by the history of scoring silent movies. A century ago music for the linear medium film was created interactively (most often by a single piano player); when video games entered the stage in the 1970s and 1980s, linear music was composed for an interactive medium. Hans HiScore thrives to merge these developments into creating interactive music for an interacive video game. The experiment of scoring music right while the game is played aims to push the limits of interactive audio in video games.

Challenge:
Creating an interactive soundtrack while players are playing the game (Super Mario Galaxy on Nintendo Wii).
Solution:
Creativity and skilled musicians.
